Living, Dreaming, Going Living, Dreaming, Going is a 4:40 sound piece by Jim Ricks which explores notions of nostalgia and fantasy, as well as how the Barthian conception of mythology is developed through appropriated popular culture. It consists of more than 25 songs that contain both California in the title and lyrics. Everything except the vocals singing 'California' were removed and what remained of all the songs was layered to produce Living, Dreaming, Going. The work was originally accompanied by an appropriated and edited 8mm film (transferred to DVD) the artist's father, Ted Ricks, made in the 1970's.
